Christine Fischer overtook the management of Musik der Jahrhunderte as young music student in 1985. Since then she has considerable impact on the development of the institution.
Musik der Jahrhunderte’s fusion with the new music festival ECLAT in 1989, the establishing of contemporary concert series and the profiling of the Neue Vocalsolisten as the worldwide most well-known vocal ensemble specializing in contemporary chamber repertoire are a few of her significant achievements.
In the late 90ies, together with a theatre institution she built up one of the largest cultural centres of Europe. The Theaterhaus Stuttgart was opened in 2003 and since then provides a melting pot of creativity and activity for contemporary music.
Christine Fischer’s biggest challenge yet was the artistic direction and organisation of the ISCM World New Music Festival 2006, which led artists and composers from more than 60 countries of all cultures to Stuttgart.
Her contacts as manager of the Neue Vocalsolisten and as festival director make her institution an important junction of a worldwide network of contemporary music.
