Finnish pianist Joonas Ahonen’s range extends from interpretations of Viennese classical music on period pianos to world premieres of contemporary music. Ahonen is a member of Klangforum Wien, which is one of the leading ensembles for new music, and a member of the Rödberg Hammerklavier Trio. As a soloist, he has performed with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the ensembles Avanti! and Ictus, among others.

Ahonen’s recordings of Ligeti’s Piano Concerto and Ives’ Sonata No. 2 »Concord« on BIS Records have been enthusiastically received by critics. Most recently, he has performed with the Stavanger SO under the baton of Pablo Heras-Casado and with the ORF RSO Vienna under Marin Alsop, and has appeared with violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja in Lockenhaus, Gstaad and at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala.
