Malin Grass is a violinist with an artistic focus on experimental and new music who has participated in numerous world premieres as a soloist and chamber musician. She is a co-opted member of the Berlin soloist ensemble Kaleidoskop and has performed with renowned institutions such as the Ensemble Modern Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Sonar Quartet and PODIUM Esslingen. In the progressive string quartet PULSE, she devotes herself intensively to experimental concert formats.

 

During her studies, she was already a member of various ensembles, including ensemble reflektor, a young North German chamber orchestra, and Eroica Berlin, an ensemble focusing on historically informed performance practice. In 2024, she founded the trio marcel together with Benjamin Kautter (cello) and Alex Waite (piano), which has since performed in Stuttgart, Graz and at the Trame Sonore chamber music festival in Mantova (Italy), among other venues. The year before, she and violinist Hayaka Komatsu launched the interdisciplinary collective per se, which works at the intersection of music, performance and improvisation. per se will receive the Café Bauhaus Award in 2024.

For 2025, Malin Grass and Ukrainian composer Marta Haladzhun have been awarded the Shift Scholarship by the City of Stuttgart. As part of the scholarship, they will create a collaborative, multimedia work about the network behaviour of slime moulds.

 

She studied violin with Viviane Hagner, Melise Mellinger and Nurit Stark. She received formative inspiration from numerous personalities in the contemporary music scene, including Nurit Stark, György Kurtág, Peter Ablinger, Caroline Melzer, Sarah Nemtsov, Angelika Luz, Hannes Seidl, Isabel Mundry, Robin Hoffmann, Iris ter Schiphorst, Georg Nussbaumer, Felix Profos, Sidney Corbett, Nikolaus Brass, Birke Bertelsmeier, Francesco Filidei and more.
