Catch! Catching the audience. Bringing out the so different timbres of clarinet, violoncello and piano in a virtuosic way, while constantly searching for the common, unmistakable soundthis is the special profile of the Trio Catch.
It is named after the work »Catch« op. 4 by Thomas Adès, in which the clarinet is caught by the piano trio through a charming children’s round dance. In addition to classical music, the interpretation of contemporary music is a focus of the collaboration.

In the twelve years of its existence, the trio has already worked with numerous composers*, including Georges Aperghis, Isabel Mundry and Helmut Lachenmann, with whom they are also associated through various CD productions and radio recordings. In 2014 the trio’s debut CD »in between« was released on the col legno label, followed in 2016 by the second CD »Sanh«. In 2019, the label bastille musique released the CD »As if«, which was awarded the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, the Supersonic Award Luxembourg and the Clef d’Or de ResMusica in France. In 2012 the trio won the Hermann and Milena Ebel Prize in Hamburg and in 2014 the Berenberg Culture Prize, and in 2018 it was awarded the Dwight and Ursula Mamlok Prize for the interpretation of contemporary music.

A busy concert schedule has so far taken Trio Catch throughout Europe as well as to festivals such as Musica Strasbourg, Festival d’Automne à Paris, Contempuls Prague, Ultraschall Berlin, Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt, Eclat Stuttgart, Klangspuren Schwaz and Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik. In the 2015/16 season, Trio Catch toured some of Europe’s finest concert halls as part of the European Concert Hall Organization’s »Rising Stars« concert series.

The trio is also active in music education: At Klangspuren Schwaz it taught young people in the children’s composition workshop »lautstärker«, it held a teaching position at the Hamburg University of Music and regularly gives workshops for composers* and performers at music academies. In 2016, Trio Catch launched its own workshop concert series »Ohrknacker«, which presents a selected contemporary work written especially for the trio in four concerts each year.
