Sara Glojnarić: EVERYTHING, ALWAYS

EVERYTHING, ALWAYS creates a hybrid form that oscillates between music theatre, scripted reality, and concert piece, providing an unfiltered glimpse directly into the thought cloud of a compositional process. My voice comments on the piece as it is composed in real time, providing the ensemble with concrete musical input. This creates a juxtaposition between working processes and direct interaction with the musicians on stage in real-time. It is a curated compilation of live commentary, analysis of compositional problems, and the exploration of an ironic, scripted version of myself.

Sara Glojnarić (*1991 in Zagreb) studied composition in Zagreb and Stuttgart with Davorin Kempf, Michael Reudenbach, and Luxa Martin Schüttler. Since 2023, she has lived in Leipzig.

She has received the Kranichsteiner Music Prize, the Composition Promotion Prize from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, the City of Stuttgart Composition Prize, the Erste Bank Composition Prize in Vienna, and in 2024, the SWR Orchestra Prize at the Donaueschingen Music Days for her piece DING, DONG, DARLING!

In her artistic practice, Sara Glojnarić explores pop culture, its aesthetics, and its socio-political implications, nostalgia, collective memory, and the vast network of pop cultural data. Large-scale multimedia works are at the core of her artistic practice. She is currently working on two major projects–GUIDES TO REALITY for string quartet, voice, digitize sensors, and wireless headphones, and an opera for the Stuttgart State Opera, which addresses the acoustic memories of Stuttgart. This work is shaped by records, CDs, cassettes, and interviews from several generations of guest workers and their families from Southern and Southeastern Europe who have lived in Stuttgart. It offers a side glance at the untold stories of the city and explores the question of how we geographically locate our sense of nostalgia, longing, and belonging.

In addition to her work as a composer, Sara Glojnarić also teaches composition. In her teaching practice, she focuses on the broader cultural context of music, addressing topics such as cultural theory, translation, linguistics, and intersectional queer and feminist perspectives. She is also preparing for the upcoming triathlon season with her partner.
