Georges Aperghis: Future Memories

for mixed choir

(2019)

Future Memoriesa polyphony of sounds that carry meaning or not. It is about the memory of a common language and a reflection of our culture at a moment when it is confronted with the multiplication of data that increasingly confuses and obscures the understanding of the world in which we move. Over-information, too much commentary that surrounds us like dust: Pollution. In the midst of this tsunami, how can we keep our eyes on future memories shaped by past and coming traumas?

In the guise of an answer to this question that seeks, not least, to oppose pessimism, Future Memories constructs a mosaic of vocal play and false compositional tracks composed of elements of the past that are momentarily snatched from oblivion. The always fruitful encounters with the singers of the choir helped me to find the humorous energy to develop this score.
