Lupins cover entire swathes of land in Sweden in places and are an invasive species that displaces other smaller meadow flowers, thus stifling other growth.

The contrast between an indescribable variety of colours and beauty and the simultaneous malice and concern they cause initially fascinated me. The piece reflects superficial beauty with hidden inner turmoil. Not everything is as it seems. An allegory for our everyday lives, which are surrounded by seemingly perfect beauty.

Lisa Streich (born in 1985 in N. Råda, Sweden) studied composition and organ in Berlin, Stockholm, Salzburg, Paris and Cologne. Helmut Lachenmann and Wolfgang Rihm have been her mentors in recent years.

In her music, she often works with motorised instruments that she has created herself. She is fascinated by the de-subjectification of sound, which for her becomes universal in a certain way and speaks for and to everyone. She is also interested in the incongruous contrasts that can arise simultaneously on both the visual and auditory levels in chamber and orchestral music. She is also interested in imperfect, familiar intervals and chords from amateur choir recordings, which she deliberately takes apart and weaves into an orchestral setting, sometimes with 40 voices. She is currently writing a catalogue of these discoveries, BOOK OF CHORDS, in her ‘performing precarity’ group at the NMH in Oslo. Lisa Streich lives on Gotland, Sweden.
