Throughout the festival, the members of the Arditti Quartet will have appeared in various formations. And also in their finale, the real string quartet concert, they will again engage in musical collaboration. Together with the English bass clarinettist Gareth Davis they become the dream team for the new work by Silvia Borzelli and for Sven-Ingo Koch’s new version of his clarinet quintet. For this special instrumentation he was inspired by a poem by Jehuda Amichai, which quotes the comforting sound of the clarinet. The tonal combination of synthesizer and string quartet is all the more contrasting and challenging for the young composer Andreas Eduardo Frank. »The concept of future was stronger in the past«, he says and wants to reinvent vintage. With Sergej Newski’s 3rd String Quartet–a final component of his mini-portrait at the festival–the four exceptional musicians of the Arditti Quartet can finally be heard in their actual formation.
