Stefan Keller: PERSONA–a tabla extended project
for tabla, bass and live-electronics (2019/20) ^WP/30′

A »hitherto unheard-of complex sound world, fed by elements of traditional Indian music, contemporary vocal sounds, percussive breathlessness and wacky electronics« awaits–according to bass Andreas Fischer–the listeners of the first Late Night concert. After several study visits to India, the composer Stefan Keller has developed a remarkable ability on the tabla. In his solo works he created a unique contemporary tone from the sound of the tabla, rooted in Indian tradition, in combination with live electronics, which he now wants to expand with the endless sound possibilities of the voice. The diversity of the glissandi, which characterize the special sound of the tabla, is wonderfully complemented by the deep voice. The percussive »spoken« of the tabla can also imitate the voice and develop it into virtuoso beat boxing. All in all, Keller wants to »strive for a continuous pull: an intense, spending experience«.
