Genoël von Lilienstern (*1979 in Monschau, Germany) works in the fields of instrumental composition, music theater, and AI-based compositional experiments. The spectrum of his compositional work ranges from orchestral pieces with vintage synthesizers to works in chamber music settings and sound installations. He is particularly interested in sound synthesis using artificial intelligence tools. He is co-founder of the group ktonal, which explores the artistic possibilities of learning-based sound generation.
Genoël von Lilienstern studied composition in Bremen, Berlin and The Hague. His teachers included Younghi Pagh-Paan, Hanspeter Kyburz and Klarenz Barlow. His compositions have been performed and commissioned internationally, including by the Munich Biennale, Ultraschall Berlin, ECLAT, MARS Festival Los Angeles, Qubit Noise Festival New York and the Avanti! Festival Helsinki. In July 2023, his music theater »Operation Abendsonne« will have its world premiere at the Staatstheater Kassel. He is currently interim director of the Studio for Electroacoustic Music at the AdK, Berlin.
