The fascination with dystopian, morally depraved sci-fi counter-worlds is making a comeback in the products of today’s mainstream pop culture: films, series and games draw on the aesthetics of cyberpunk or neo-noir, combining analog synthesizers of the 80s with modern production techniques in their soundtracks, creating an assortment of specific sounds that have almost become a stereotype and shape the sound of entertainment media across genres. In VICE, I use this palette as a catalyst for synthesizing the performers: The electronic sound of Pony Says forms a common body of sound with the instruments of ICTUS, in which the participants constantly intersect in various hierarchical constellations, generating a literal »meta-soundtrack« for a non-existent medium.
